Frequently Asked Questions

Does screen time affect my skin?
Research suggests that high-energy visible (HEV) light from screens can penetrate deeper into the skin than UVA rays and may contribute to hyperpigmentation, particularly in medium to darker skin tones. While the evidence is still developing, the cumulative effect of daily screen exposure over years is a growing concern in dermatology.
What is blue light (HEV) and why does it matter for skin?
HEV (high-energy visible) light occupies the 380 to 500 nanometer wavelength range, sitting between UV and visible light. It is emitted by smartphones, computers, tablets, LED lighting, and the sun. Studies indicate it may induce oxidative stress in skin cells, potentially contributing to premature aging and uneven pigmentation over time.
Does Colorescience protect against blue light?
Yes. Colorescience EnviroScreen technology provides multi-defense protection that includes HEV/blue light in addition to UVA, UVB, pollution, and infrared radiation. Products like the Sunforgettable Total Protection line incorporate iron oxides and other mineral filters that help block visible light wavelengths including blue light.
