At IVONNE, the PicoWay laser offers a cutting-edge solution for eyebrow tattoo removal, targeting unwanted pigment with precision. Achieve safe, effective results with minimal discomfort and downtime.
IVONNE provides precise, medically supervised laser removal of eyeliner tattoos using the Candela PicoWay® system. This page is your comprehensive resource guide to how the treatment works, candidacy, safety measures near the eye, expected outcomes, aftercare, risks, and how we tailor your plan for the cleanest possible result.
PicoWay delivers ultra-short picosecond pulses that shatter pigment into microscopic particles while minimizing heat in surrounding skin. This is ideal for the delicate eyelid where thermal spread must be tightly controlled. Multiple wavelengths target common eyeliner pigments (carbon blacks and mixed inks), allowing effective clearance across a range of tones. The system’s photoacoustic effect supports clearer fading with reduced downtime compared to traditional nanosecond lasers.
You may be a candidate if you have unwanted permanent eyeliner (classic, lash-line enhancement, or wing) and are in general good health. Carbon-based black pigments typically respond fastest. Mixed inks and titanium dioxide (often in lighter inks) may require more sessions and specialized parameters.
Most clients require 3–12 sessions spaced 8–12 weeks apart. Carbon black often clears faster; mixed or dense pigments, prior touch-ups, or color corrections can extend timelines. We will evaluate pigment depth, density, placement (on or just above the lash line), and your skin type (Fitzpatrick I–VI) to set realistic expectations.
Temporary swelling, redness, pinpoint bleeding, micro-crusting, and tenderness are common and self-limited. Less common risks include blistering, superficial bruising, transient lash shedding, pigment darkening (notably with titanium-containing inks), temporary hyper- or hypopigmentation, and, rarely, scarring. Treating the eyelid requires strict adherence to eye protection to mitigate ocular risks—our protocols prioritize this.
Fading is gradual over weeks as your body clears fragmented pigment. Many clients see visible lightening after the first session, with continued clearance through the series. Complete removal is not guaranteed for every pigment blend or depth, but PicoWay’s picosecond technology gives a strong advantage in difficult cosmetic inks while preserving delicate eyelid tissue.
Depending on your goals, alternatives can include saline removal for specific cases, camouflage (generally not recommended on the eyelid), or strategic lightening followed by expert corrective cosmetic tattooing elsewhere. We’ll advise the most conservative path that protects eyelid health first.
Every plan starts with a clinical assessment of pigment type, age of the tattoo, prior procedures, skin type, medical history, and tolerance for downtime. We set parameters cautiously, escalate only as appropriate, and document progress with standardized photos. Your privacy is protected; we comply with PHIPA and maintain rigorous data safeguards.
Clients often want to know whether the treatment is painful, how it will affect their eyelashes, and how soon they can return to makeup. In most cases, discomfort is mild thanks to topical numbing, and while temporary lash shedding may occur, lashes regrow. Makeup can typically be resumed within a week, once the skin barrier has healed.
Another common concern is whether all pigments can be removed. Carbon blacks respond most predictably, while mixed inks or titanium-based pigments can take longer and may darken before they lighten. Finally, darker skin types can be treated safely with adjusted settings and strict sun precautions to reduce pigmentation risks.

Unwanted Permanent Makeup
Unwanted permanent makeup, such as eyebrow, eyeliner, or lip tattoos, results from dissatisfaction with color, shape, or application, or from fading over time. Advanced laser treatments target pigment particles, breaking them down for safe removal or correction by the body.
Faded, Oversaturated, or Migrated Eyeliner Tattoo
Faded, oversaturated, or migrated eyeliner tattoos occur when pigments lose vibrancy, become too intense, or shift beyond the intended area due to poor application or skin changes. Laser removal safely fragments the pigment, restoring a natural look.
